About The Artist

l drake-robinsonHello,

Thank you for visiting my website! Perhaps we already know one another, or maybe you are just getting to know me. Either way, it is my goal to create a portrait for you that captures the likeness and personality of the subject, to create a portrait that you and your loved one will treasure.

I have been a professional artist for over 30 years!

I have a BFA in art from the University of Montana, but I also studied at NAU, in Flagstaff, AZ. Several of my professors at NAU were graduates of Art Center College of Design, LA. So I received really wonderful instruction there.

Being a native Montanan, I just couldn’t live for long anywhere else, so I returned to Montana in 1977 where I finished my degree in Art and Art Ed.

My first teaching job was on the Flathead Indian Reservation, teaching Art at an Indian Alternative school, the Two Eagle River School. I began to do portraits while working there, portraits of the Tribal Elders and other tribal members at tribal dances and cultural gatherings. And of course, I have always painted landscapes, since I have been surrounded by the beauty of Montana my entire life.

Over the next 17 years I taught art both public schools and privately, to both adults and children. But that is not all I was doing!

I was also marketing my art in the form of prints and postcards throughout the Northwest. My art gained the attention of several large companies and I began to design art for commercial purposes. I was published by Leanin’ Tree Cards,

Applejack Publishing, The Bradford Exchange, and Arctic circle Inc.

After several years of designing for commercial purposes I returned to teaching, establishing my own Art Academy where taught children and adults for over 12 years.

l drake-robinson workingI began to specialize in portraits in 2001. For ten years I have been creating custom portraits. I have spent each of the past ten Holiday seasons featuring my portraits in the Southgate Mall in Missoula, MT, rushing home to work on portraits when I am not promoting them in the mall. I have probably created a couple hundred portraits over the past ten years! But every portrait gets my best effort. I want you, my client, to be thrilled when you see it. All my years of training, teaching, designing and working as a professional artist go into creating YOUR portrait.

I hope we meet, I consider it a privilege to:

“turn your treasured memories into timeless treasures”!
